A whole host of local favourites will be performing including The Bearwood Bandits, Jane H, Honeyboy Jones, Writers Without Borders and storyteller Gavin Young. Smethwick Craftivistas will be launching their latest project and encouraging the local community to get their craft on and get involved, and there will also be plenty of family activities for children of all ages to get involved in.
Bearwood Action for Refugees formed in Autumn 2015. Since then they have raised over £4500 to support refugees in transit through their fundraising events and activities. In the past two years they have worked with local playgroups, schools and individuals to send 460 colouring books and pencils to refugee children for Christmas.
They have hosted a number of awareness raising events and training courses for the local community including asylum issues and befriending. In October their Procession of Light saw 200 local people gather in Warley Woods for a torchlitwalk in solidarity with refugees.
In February they began a monthly community lunch project in partnership with The Real Junk Food Project Brum, where local refugees and asylum seekers can come together to cook, eat and share a meal with local volunteers.
RefuTea Party-Second Helpings is in aid of Aegean Solidarity Network who work with refugees in transit in Greece supplying them with much needed support and essential items they need. They are entirely volunteer-run so every penny goes directly to the refugees who need it most. For more information about the projects they support, please visit: https://asnteamuk.org
