As last weekend’s fabulous Street Festival certainly proved, there are a number of things that make Bearwood the unique place it is, ask anyone that lives here (of COURSE we’re not biased!!), and community is certainly one of them. On Sunday 18 June, 12noon – 3pm, in Lightwoods Park, the great community of Bearwood will be getting together over a delicious spread and a good chinwag and you’re all invited. Joining the movement of picnics and street parties happening across the country the Bearwood picnic is part of Brendan Cox’s Great Get Together initiative, inspired by Jo Cox MP’s belief that we have more in common than that which divides us.
Organiser Ceri Saunders comments:
“Like Jo Cox, I believe that we have more in common than that which divides us, and for me the international language of food is always a great leveller! It brings us together and allows us to sample a little of each others’ lives.”
The informal gathering is a chance to enjoy our beautiful park with neighbours and friends. Do bring a blanket and a picnic and join us on the grass outside the house from noon. If you want to bring along a pot luck dish to share for the community table in the bandstand you are more than welcome, Ceri may even be making some of her Gran’s famous welsh cakes, which believe me, you don’t want to miss! The event will be very family friendly and Benson’s Family games will be there from 2pm with their free family based sports games, so there’s something to keep the kids entertained too!
The picnic is supported by Near Neighbours who are supporting Great Get Togethers across the country, and are working across all faiths and none to encourage people to work together to create positive change in their neighbourhoods.
